Advanced Planning for People with Developmental Disabilities

Advanced planning can be especially beneficial to people that have a developmental disability that are entering middle age and who are currently receiving their primary support from an aging family member.  Planning ahead can relieve a tremendous amount of pressure, and can help reduce the severity of health issues due to aging.

People with developmental disabilities can have many more health related challenges to face than people that do not have a developmental disability.

People with developmental disabilities are able to enjoy and participate in most facets of what the average person would consider an “ordinary” life, but sometimes need additional support from other sources.

Typically, people living with a developmental disability are primarily supported by their parents or other family members.  As their parents age, people with developmental disabilities may find themselves on the margin, lacking the support they have become accustomed to and deserve.

In many cases, they may be unaware of support services in their communities that are available to assist them.

If someone you love is living with a developmental disability, please consider planning ahead to ensure his or her long-term well-being.

It’s the best way to ensure your loved one receives the highest quality services and support available, and are able to continue living within the lifestyle he or she has become accustomed to.
