The Haldimand & Norfolk Seniors Partnership

The Haldimand & Norfolk Seniors Partnership is a network of support agencies from across Haldimand & Norfolk Counties.  The partnership was created in 2006 to ensure that region wide community capacity is increased for aging individuals with a developmental disability.  The aim is for all these individuals to have full citizenship by increasing and creating systemic supports, and increasing their involvement and participation in organizations that provide support services for seniors.

The partnership includes Community Living Haldimand, the Norfolk Association for Community Living, Community Living Access Support Services, Haldimand-Norfolk REACH, CONTACT Haldimand-Norfolk, and Dover Cliffs Long Term Care Centre, in association with the Alzheimer’s Society of Haldimand-Norfolk, and the Hamilton-Niagara-Haldimand-Brant Community Care Access Centre.

The Haldimand Community Living service providers jointly undertook a region-wide study completed by EMC Partners principals Gail Ure and Walt Chmiel.  The long-term goal of the project is to ensure that community capacity region-wide is increased for individuals aging with a developmental disability.  The goal is for individuals to have full citizenship by increasing and creating systemic supports for such seniors, and increasing their involvement and participation with and receiving supports from providers of services for seniors.  In 2006, a project report outlining the goals of the campaign was submitted on behalf of the partnership.

In March 2007, the partnership submitted a proposal for project funding to the Government of Canada and the Ministry of Community and Social Services.  The proposal was accepted, and the partnership received funding for its ongoing awareness campaign.
